With the turmoil that COVID-19 has brought recently, we have gone above and beyond with our support to our clients. We have assisted with calculating furlough pay, making JRS claims, dealing with local authorities to ensure businesses are receiving the support they are entitled to, looking at cash flows, assisting with redundancies, arranging time to pay tax liabilities with HMRC and providing free HR and Health and Safety support.

Our core clients are made up of over 500 local businesses that are the backbone of North East commerce in a wide variety of sectors including retail, leisure, health and manufacturing, to name but a few. We act for the UK interests of several international groups. In terms of size of organisation we have some sole traders with turnover less than £10k and at the other end of the scale our larger clients achieve turnover in excess of £20M. But all get the same friendly expertise!

We are well known for our technical expertise providing advice to a number of smaller firms of Accountants – We are also an accredited training firm.

Our origins can be traced back to the 1960s. In the early 70’s we became a satellite office of a major international accounting firm, then in 1975 demerged to be an independent firm.

The firm is led by Mark Charlton FCA CTA, who has directed his practice for over 30 years after leaving Price Waterhouse. Mark has seen accounting practices change dramatically in that time but one thing that doesn’t change is the professional dedication the firm has always had toward its clients.

The team at Charlton and Co have the skill sets, qualification and experience to ensure the advice and services provided are always professional and reliable. Charlton and Co is an accredited training office – not only do we provide advice to other firms, we also train new accountants. The team continuously strives to offer the most up-to-date services and to provide online accounting solutions that are available for businesses of all sizes.
